My name is Mary Jo O'Connor.  I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, 1988.  I continued my education with Graduate school at Villanova University.  In 1993 I graduated with a Master of Science in Counseling and Human Relations.  My emphasis was in addiction treatment.  I have worked at Today, Inc., American Day Treatment Centers, Renewal Centers, Livengrin and Eastern PA Psychiatric Institute.   I have had a small private practice for 18 years.  I am currently expanding my practice and wish to help anyone who is in emotional pain. I primarily work with women, and am open to adolescents who are motivated to be in treatment.

COVID-19 has brought about many unique challenges to our door step. Unfortunately, many people have struggled to cope with the isolation, developing unhealthy patterns. It is normal to feel down and even depressed at times. This last year has heightened depression and anxiety for many people. Most of us self medicate with food, alcohol, tv, social media, shopping, vaping, smoking, gambling etc. Many have noticed themselves over-indulging as of late. Some times an occasional drink can lead to one every day, then several every day. This type of behavior becomes a problematic when negative consequences occur due to over indulgence of these compulsions.

I have been able to help people deal with depression, fear, low self-esteem, infertility, marital issues, co-dependency, addictions and more. I am here to provide support. I come from a family that has dealt with addiction/emotional issues. I myself have healed many wounds. I think it is beneficial to work with a therapist who understands your struggles, first hand. There is hope, light at the end of the tunnel.
